Data centre and facility managers need to demonstrate that the environment which houses critical hardware is clean enough not to pose a risk to equipment operation. Data centres and cleanrooms are both controlled for particles. Particles include visible dirt as well as invisible dust floating in the air. The risks posed by particles vary by size. Particles large enough to accumulate on a surface can build up to block air fans and cause equipment to overheat. Particles small enough to remain airborne can be drawn into equipment.
