Suction cups is believed to have existed in the 3rd century and were used to supposedly draw out bad blood. In 1868 a patent was issued for a knob as featured in this image. In 1983, Dan Goodwin used suction cups to scale the Sears Building and many buildings subsequently.
The dotcom boom saw many data centres being built. The floor file lifter became a norm in data centres. A standard floor tile lifter has 2 suction cups and is used to lift and remove the raised floor tile so that the space underneath can be accessed for cleaning and maintenance.
